The Bank of Montreal building in Old Montreal, facing Place d’Armes square. The Bank of Montreal is Canada’s oldest bank. It was founded by Montreal merchants on June 23 1817. It was the first bank to publish a currency in Canada.Today it’s the 5th largest bank in the country by deposits, it has in Canada more then 900 branches. It also operates in the US in the Chicago region where it operates as Harris Bank. This building is a landmark in Montreal and a must to visit. There is a small museum that shows the different banking artifacts throughout the years.

This picture is an HDR, that was constructed from 3 pictures with a EV of 1 and generated via photomatix. Have a nice week all.

Another long time exposure shot. This was the entry point of the Montreal Lights festival. So lots of movement and people. This is also the place where you would find the animation people hang out. In this cas , The light fairy was moving along the crowd. She was wearing a large dress with leds all over the bottom of it. So I was interested in capturing the movement of the subject threw the crowd You must be patient for this type of shot and be very attentive to your subject movements in order to capture the light trails. I believe I got an interesting shot out of this.Have a nice weekend all.

Rue de la commune

Rue de la commune IMGP6234.jpg, originally uploaded by ©mderome.

I will continue today with another shot taken last saturday night. This is the De La commune street. It separates the old city and the port of Montreal. It was at the edge of the river and directly facing the Port of Montreal. Wath makes this street interesting is it’s succession of old building all illuminated. The street is made of cobble stone and very picturesque. This was picture was taken looking west, at the foot of Place Jacques Cartier. THe picture was taken on a tripod with a 18-55 mm lens at 40mm , F16 for 10s, Iso 100.

More pictures of my night at the All Nighter here in Montreal. For the occasion, the added a big wheel for the benefit of the families and of course the photographers. Big wheels are great subjects to pratcie long exposures photography. It permits to change a very static thing into something very dynamic. And I find that the colors are allot more interesting. For this shot I uses my tripod, ISO 100, 18-55mm lens at 18mm, a Fstop of F20, time of exposure 8.

I also wnated to include in the picture another landmark of Old Montreal Bonsecours Market. The building to your right with the big dome.

Part of history

Continuing on the presentation of my city here is The Notre-Dame -de Bonsecours chapel. This church is situated on St-Paul street in old Montreal, right beside the Bonsecours market. The actual church was build in 1771 on the remains of the previous chapel that was destroyed by fire. It is home to the remains of Marguerite Bourgeois first teacher and founder of the Congregation Notre-Dame. You can visit a small museum and see archeological artifacts from her period. This churches particularity is that you will find sailing boats given by sailors to the church hanging from the ceiling. This church was adopted as the Sailors church due to it’s location next to the port.

This picture was taken during the All nighter around 22:00. I used a tripod and a long exposure to capture the traffic passing by. You can see the lineup of people waiting to attend a Gospel choir presentation. The temperature was around -19c.
